'Skegness is So Bracing', BR (ER) poster, 1956

Poster produced for British Railways (BR) Eastern Region (ER), showing a view of the Embassy Ballroom and a funfair, at the Lincolnshire seaside resort of Skegness, with the beach and pier in the background. In the top right-hand corner is shown the famous 'Jolly Fisherman' character, taken from the original GNR poster of 1908 by John Hassall, also entitled 'Skegness is So Bracing'. The 'Jolly Fisherman' is still used to promote the resort today. Artwork by Kenneth Steel. Printed by R B Macmillan, Derby.

'Butlin's Holiday Camp, Skegness', LNER poster, 1930

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway in conjunction with Butlin's Holiday Camps to promote rail travel to Skegness in Lincolnshire. The poster shows an action-packed view of a throng of people enjoying themselves in and around a huge swimming pool at Butlin's Camp, with a water feature and man beating a drum in the foreground. 'Rugby School', LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced by London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) as part of a series devoted to public schools in England. The poster shows a view of Rugby School which was founded in 1567 and moved to its present site in 1750. The buildings shown here date from the early nineteenth century. The view shown is from the School Close, where the game of rugby was first conceived. The building shown is the 'Old Schools'. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railway companies and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924.
